Camp Fire River Bend Board of Directors

At Camp Fire, our leadership believes in strong mentorship and modeling behavior that leads to success. Our Board of Directors come from a varied background of education, technology, youth development, financial services, media, and nonprofit organizations. Board Members are elected to serve a term of three years, and Officers are elected to serve a term of two years. Members and Officers may serve up to two consecutive terms. The Board of Directors meets monthly.

We also have a number of standing committees on which individuals may serve. You do not have to be a member of the board to serve on a committee! The current committees are: Finance, Fundraising, Strategic Facilities, and Board Development.

2017-2018 Board of Directors


Sharon Hayward, President

Sharon Hayward has served on the Board of Directors for Camp Fire River Bend since 2014, and was the Secretary from 2014-2016. She has been the President since November of 2016. Sharon was a Camp Fire member and attended Camp Tannadoonah as a youth. She works as an information technology project manager at the University of Notre Dame, and teaches classes in the Mendoza College of Business at Notre Dame. Sharon holds a bachelor’s degree in Education, a master’s degree in Management, and a Project Management Professional certification. Sharon and her husband, Rob, live in Elkhart, and have four children and one grandchild.

Cindy Krupp, Vice President

Cindy Krupp has served on the Board of Directors for Camp Fire River Bend since 2013, and was the President of the board from 2014-2016. She has served in the role of Vice President since November 2016. Prior to joining the board, Cindy was a nurse at Camp Tannadoonah, starting in 2007. Cindy’s first experience in Camp Fire was as a Bluebird growing up in Minnesota. Cindy has also served on the Parents’ Board for Culver Academy, and has chaired their annual fundraiser auction. Cindy and her husband, Rich, live in South Haven, Michigan, and their three children have all attended and worked at Camp Tannadoonah. Their oldest child now attends the University of Indiana at Bloomington, and their two sons are Cadets at the Air Force Academy.

Andrew Roche, Secretary

Andrew Roche has served on the Board of Directors for Camp Fire River Bend since 2014, and is the Chair of the Strategic Facilities Committee. He has served in the role of Secretary since November 2016. Andrew holds bachelor’s degrees in Architecture and Environmental Design. He is a partner at Creative Design Solutions, Inc. in South Bend, where he works as an architect and project manager. Andrew, his wife Yolanda (a former Tannadoonah camper and staff member), and their camper Corinne, live in South Bend.


Members at Large

Karen DelleDonne

Karen Delle Donne joined the Board of Directors for Camp Fire River Bend in July 2017 and is a member of the fundraising committee. She currently teaches Biology at Trinity School at Greenlawn. Karen earned her bachelor of science in biology from the University of Notre Dame and her doctorate in pharmacology from Rutgers University. She has worked at Notre Dame in research and educational outreach. Karen, her husband Ed, and their three children live in Granger, Indiana.

Tom Edgerton

Tom Edgerton joined the Board in 2018 following 49 years in the travel industry. After graduating from IU South Bend in 1970 with a Bachelors in Business Administration he joined Edgerton’s Travel Service and directed expansion to schools and tour operation throughout the Midwest. He now spends time traveling, gardening and teaching Sunday School. Tom and Carolyn have two children and three granddaughters.

Phil Iapalucci

Phil Iapalucci has served on the Board of Directors since 2014, is the chair of the Board Development Committee, and is a member of the Finance Committee. He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s of business administration. Phil is currently working for Indiana University South Bend as the Vice Chancellor of Administration and Finance. He has over 25 years of professional experience in business and finance, including financial positions with Deloitte, Eastman Kodak, the University of Notre Dame, Southwestern Michigan College, and the University of South Carolina System. Phil, his wife Carol, and their three children live in Granger, and their youngest daughter attended Camp Tannadoonah for several years.

Michael Lacognato

Michael Lacognato has served on the Board of Directors since January of 2017, and is a member of the Marketing and Fundraising Committee. Michael also serves on the Parish Council at St. Pius X Catholic Church, the Advisory Board at American National University, and the Special Projects Director for the Jr. Irish Soccer Club. Michael holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from the State University of New York College at Oswego, and has completed graduate courses in Social Policy from Empire State University. Michael has been employed in a marketing, sales or management capacity in a variety of industries with over 25 years, and is currently the Vice- President of Marketing for Laidig Systems, Incorporated in Mishawaka. Michael, his wife Kristin, and their two children live in Granger, and their youngest son Ty has been a Camp Tannadoonah camper for the past 4 years.

Cory Marlow

Cory Marlow has served on the Board of Directors since 2014, and is a member of the finance committee. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration. Cory is the Executive Vice President of Financial Partners, Inc. in Elkhart, a partner in the Bacon Hill Kitchen and Pub, and was recently elected Porter Township (MI) Supervisor. He has served for six years as a board member for the United Cancer Services Cockopalooza Event, is a member of the Pillars of Elkhart, and is also on the board for the Junior Achievement and Lemonade Day serving Elkhart County. In 2016 Cory was named one of Michiana’s Forty Under 40, an honor which recognizes regional business and professional leaders who have achieved success before the age of 40. Cory and his wife, Brittany (a former Tannadoonah camper), and their future camper, Foster, live on Shavehead Lake, in Vandalia, MI.

John Michel

John Michel joined the Board of Directors for Camp Fire River Bend in 2018. He has served on the faculty of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College Business for twenty years. He teaches courses at the graduate and undergraduate level in Nonprofit Management and Planning, Foresight in Business and Society, and Strategic Management. He has won three outstanding instructor awards as voted on by the students. He received his doctorate from Columbia University in New York. John and his wife Maggie live in South Bend.

Bob Pence

Bob Pence was elected to the Board of Directors for Camp Fire River Bend in September 2016. Bob is a retired attorney and former corporate vice president for The Mosaic Company. He holds a bachelor’s degree in finance and Juris Doctor (J.D) from the University of Illinois. Bob’s business experience includes extensive involvement in the governance of boards of directors for public companies, as well as a broad range of business, financial, and legal matters. Bob served on the Board of Education for the Western Springs IL District 101 for four years, during which time he chaired the building committee, and was a member of the finance committee. He was a member of the Western Springs District 101 School Board Caucus for nine years, and served in the roles of Secretary and President. Bob is recently retired, and he and his wife, Barb, live at Birch Lake spend their winters near their daughter and granddaughter in Marshall, MI. Their two daughters attended Camp Tannadoonah, and their new granddaughter looks forward to attending Camp T in the future.

Colin Raybin

Colin Mysliwiec Raybin joined the Board of Directors for Camp Fire River Bend in November 2017. Colin spent 15 years in New York City performing as a professional dancer and touring nationally and internationally before returning to her hometown of Michiana with her family in 2014. After taking time to be home with her son, she returned to the stage in 2017, collaborating since then in shows at LangLab, University of Michigan, and Notre Dame. Colin is a regular guest teacher at local studios and Universtiy of Michigan and is an associate faculty member at IUSB, where she is fortunate to be able to bring ballet and modern to first-time dancers as well as veteran movers. Colin studied on scholarship at Cunningham, Limon, and Boston Ballet, and received her BFA with Highest Honors from the University of Michigan. She is from Niles, MI and started dancing with Joanne and Debbie Pullen and then Southold Dance Theater. In addition, Colin founded Private School Edge, a tutoring company in New York City in 2008, following 10 years as a professional tutor for The Princeton Review. She trained teachers across the county and also wrote and edited course materials for in-house manuals and for publication by Random House for SAT, GMAT, ISEE/SSAT and ERB tests.

Patrick Welch

Patrick Welch was elected to the Board of Directors for Camp Fire River Bend in March 2017 and is a member of the Marketing and Fundraising Committee. Currently, he is the President of AlphaGraphics, a print and marketing company located in Elkhart and South Bend, IN. Patrick is also a board member of WNIT, past president of Elcona Country Club, past president of Montessori School of Elkhart, Rotary Club of South Bend and United Way of Elkhart County and is a graduate of Indiana University. Both of his daughters were campers at Camp Tannadoonah. He and his wife Jeannie reside at Birch Lake in the spring and summer and winter in Naples, Fl.
