Bunk 1 Emails and Photos

Camp Tannadoonah has partnered with Bunk1 to provide email service for campers. This is also where we post photos for you to view while your camper is at camp. You can use the Bunk1 website, or install the app on your phone or tablet (Apple Store, Google Play).

Bunk1’s secure, easy to use, website services let you stay in touch with your camper while they’re away at camp. They also offer facial recognition software to help find your camper in the daily photos! You can save your favorite photos of your camper, share photos to social media or send them to family members, and even order high res prints or gifts with your camper's image on them. There is NO FEE to view photos.

Bunk Notes email credits are $1 or less per credit, and and be purchased in bundles of 10 to 150 credits. The Bunk1 email service is a ONE WAY service. Campers do not have access to computers, and cannot email you back.

Frequently Asked Questions About Bunk 1

HOW DO I SEND A BUNK NOTE (EMAIL) TO MY CHILD?

After registering, simply sign in and click on the Bunk Notes button. Enter your camper’s name, select their cabin (if you know it - if not, don't worry! It will still get to them). Type your message, and hit the “Send” button.

WHEN ARE EMAILS DELIVERED?

We print out the emails each afternoon, and hand them out to campers after evening free swim (around 5:30pm). Your email must be sent by 4pm EDT to be delivered the same day! Emails received after 4pm EDT will be delivered the next day after free swim. Emails received after 4pm on Friday will not get to your camper because they will go home before we receive them.

WHAT DO THE BUNK NOTES COST?

Bunk Note credits cost $1 each (or less) and are purchased in packs of various sizes (10 for $10, 30 for $25, 60 for $49, or 150 for $98).

WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY TO SEND BUNK NOTES?

Each afternoon, the Bunk Notes system bundles and sorts the messages for us to print out and distribute to campers. It also protects us from computer viruses and allows us to easily manage these emails. Your payment helps us cover the cost of the system, paper, ink, and labor and, more importantly, frees us to do what we do best – be with your kids! And you don't have to buy paper, an envelope, or a stamp, or wait on the mail service to deliver it to camp!

CAN MY CAMPER SEND EMAIL BACK?

No, campers do not have access to any electronics during their time at Camp Tannadoonah. We want to provide a technology-free camp experience to give youth a break from the modern world. Parents will be contacted by camp staff if there is a problem.

CAN OTHER RELATIVES SEND EMAIL TO MY CHILD?

Certainly. Once you have set up your account, you will be able to invite other people to access these services.

WHAT DO I DO IF I LOST MY USERNAME AND PASSWORD?

You can get it online by going to Bunk 1's website and click the “need to reset your password?” link. You will receive an email with your username and password within a few minutes.

Email Tips for Parents

  • DO write about… Ask lots of questions about camp life. What activities has your camper tried? Which are his favorites? What is her favorite camp meal so far? Ask about bunk mates, school friends, siblings, and new pals. This invites them to write back to you with answers! It’s also great to remind your campers that you can’t wait to hear everything about camp, that you are proud of them, and that you hope they are learning new skills. This is a great comfort, and it reminds your children that you’re happy to send them to camp.
  • DON’T write about… Be careful about mentioning what your camper is missing at home, and try not to say “I miss you” too much. Send your love, not your anxiety! To minimize worry and homesickness, save mild bad news for when your camper comes home (for example, if the family pet isn’t doing so well). If you have serious bad news to share, always call us (574-387-6095) instead of including it in a letter.
  • If you get a homesick letter… When responding to a letter from your homesick camper, empathize with how they’re feeling, but reiterate that you’re proud of them for going to camp. It’s also important to remember that letters are mostly written during down time – which is when homesickness can occur. More resources about homesickness are available from the American Camp Association.
  • Time flies. Remember that by the time you receive a “low” letter, it is already a few days old, and your camper’s concerns have likely already been solved and forgotten about! If you are truly worried, call us (574-387-6095) and we will check in with your camper’s counselors.
