Camp Fire River Bend | Camp Tannadoonah

Free Period Activities

Each camper has two free periods per day. During free periods, campers have the opportunity to select from our “free choice” activities: crafts, nature, drama, sports and games, archery, chill zone, or gaga ball. They can change their free period choice each day if they want to. The counselors who lead these activities will announce each morning what will be happening at those activities (e.g., sports and games might play kickball, crafts might make friendship bracelets, nature might be going on a water hike, drama might be playing freeze, and archery might be having a tic-tac-toe shoot).

No pre-registration is required for any of these activities, and every camper will have the opportunity to try each of these activities if they choose to. One of our goals in Camp Fire is the give youth a voice; this is an area where campers get to choose their own schedule and change it daily depending on their interests.

Free Period Activity Descriptions

Archery

Campers will learn the basics of archery. At the end of the week, campers can participate in the Golden Arrow Tournament with their peers. Archery counselors are trained by a certified National Archery Association (NAA) Level 2 instructor.

Chill Zone

Chill out! Take a break from the busy hustle of the camp day, and relax in a hammock, play cards at the picnic table, chat with friends, or make a friendship bracelet. Campers spend one activity period per day at the Chill Zone.

Drama

Improve your acting skills by playing Charades, Improv Games, “Freeze”, Pictionary, or acting out skits and scenes. Have a great time being creative and goofy playing drama games.

Gaga Ball

Go Gaga at Camp T this summer! It’s an Israeli version of dodgeball that is played in an octagonal “gaga pit.” The game is fast-paced and fun for all ages! You can read more about Gaga Ball here. Because of how crowded this activity gets, campers may only come to gaga ball one period per day.

Handcraft

Learn how to build a birdhouse out of recycled materials, braid a keychain or lanyard, make a friendship bracelet for your best buddy, or make a popsicle stick box to store all of your camp treasures. Those are just a few of the fun things the handcraft leader has planned for the summer!

Nature

Learn nature lore in the forests surrounding Camp T, visit the Princess Tree, take a trust hike or a water hike.

Sports & Games

Each day of the week the Sports and Games leaders schedule a different activity. Friday is “Camper’s Choice,” and campers who attend sports and games get to vote to decide the game of the day. Activities include basketball, softball, wiffleball, golf, relay races, dodgeball, Spud, Frisbee golf, kickball, and many others!
