Camp Fire River Bend | Camp Tannadoonah

CIT Information

Great campers make great counselors! The Counselor in Training (CIT) program at Camp Tannadoonah is designed to help train the next generation of amazing Camp Counselors. This is a 3-level progressive program, with participants taking on more responsibility each year.

CIT 1s must be 15 years of age or older, and will spend 2 weeks at camp. As a CIT 1, you will live in a cabin with other similarly-aged campers for both weeks. CIT 1s meet with the CIT Director daily, and learn about what it takes to be a camp counselor. CIT 1s help lead activities, assist counselors, work in the camp kitchen, and do a service project for camp. There is still plenty of time to be a camper and have fun, too!

CIT 2s must be 16 years of age or older, AND must have completed the CIT 1 program at Camp Tannadoonah. CIT 2s attend camp for 2 and a half weeks (Mini Week + Session 4 and Session 5). During the 3-day Mini Week portion, the CIT 2s go on a camping adventure with the CIT Director. They will travel to an off-site location, stay in tents for 3 nights, and prepare their own meals over the fire. Upon their return to Camp, the CIT 2s have the opportunity to live in cabins with younger campers, assisting the cabin counselors, leading activities, and helping in many different roles around camp. The CIT 2 off-site camping experience provides an amazing opportunity for bonding among the CITs!

CIT 3s must be 17 years of age or older, AND must have completed both the CIT 1 and CIT 2 programs at Camp Tannadoonah. CIT 3s are at camp for 3 weeks in a volunteer role. There is no fee to participate in this 3-week program. CIT 3s live in cabins with younger campers and assist the cabin counselors and take on greater leadership roles. In the past, many CIT 3s have been hired to come back later in the summer in paid staff roles.

Please note that participation in the CIT program does not guarantee future employment at Camp Tannadoonah.
